Chances are, it's polyester. Yes, that's right – almost all mainstream underwear is made from plastic.
Polyester traps heat and moisture, and can expose your skin to synthetic, dangerous chemicals
all day long.
So, what's wrong with polyester?
There's lots of toxic chemicals present in both artificial fibres, and the dyes used to colour each piece.
These chemicals leach out in the form of particles, and get absorbed into the body through our pores.
This process is accelerated by body heat, sweat, friction, and moisture.
As underwear sits directly against your body, there's no chance it won't make contact.
Why is organic better?
As opposed to polyester (which is manufactured from petrochemicals), organic cotton is a grown fibre.
The 'organic' certification means it's grown without the use of any chemicals at all.
From the fabric side of it, there is nothing harmful to absorb into the skin.
Not the whole story!
It's fantastic that the organic fabric is already 100% better for your body, but harmful chemicals are also present is cheap, mainstream dyes – these are called (and not for nothing): chemical rich dyes.
These are to avoided as much as the polyester fabric, as chemicals such as formaldehyde, heavy metals and PFAS (forever chemicals) are what they're made from.
