New Fabric Spotlight: Muslin Cotton
We started playing with our beautifully woven muslin cotton late last year, and oh my!
We were bursting to show you the 3 gorgeous Summer designs we crafted, and now want to highlight the benefits of this type of cotton, and tell you some things to look out for.
So, what exactly is muslin cotton?
Muslin is the name of the fabric woven from regular cotton, but in a very loose weave. The crinkle effect in muslin and other loose weave cotton fabrics is due to the natural way cotton yarns relax and shrink when washed.
The Benefits
π± The loose, open weave allows plenty of air circulation, meaning it's very cool to wear in warmer weather.
π± The light, flexible fabric sits loosely against the skin ensuring it doesn't cling to the body.
π± It becomes softer with every wash, and doesn't lose its shape as the fibres maintain their structural integrity.
π± It's a soft, gentle fabric that is recommended for those with sensitive skin or skin issues. The airy 'barely there' feel means is doesn't irritate the body.
GOOD TO KNOW
π± While the fabric is ultra lightweight and airy, it's doesn't provide real warmth on its own β it looks fabulous layered though!
π± The fabric is not as tough as twill, poplin or canvas - this is why we've created beautiful draping silhouette pieces rather than workwear.
π± The natural colour can be see through β just remember to wear nude coloured unders.
π± Some muslin has been known to shrink β ours has already been pre-washed and pre-shrunk, and is ready for everyday wear.
Our ultra lightweight muslin cotton tops and pants will be your best friend this Summer!
A little bit of care will go a long way, and your pieces will be with you for many years.
We hope you love your new muslin cotton pieces, and enjoy the luxurious feel of the beautifully woven cotton fabric each time you wear it.
Until next time,
